Formulation Tip: For 100% water-based solutions (like clear toners, room sprays, or mists), Geogard ECT does not fully dissolve on its own and will cloud the liquid. It requires a natural solubilizer or solvent helper (such as Propanediol or Ethoxydiglycol) to guarantee clarity and stable distribution.
Formulation & Handling Guidelines
Recommended Usage Level: 0.6% – 1.0% of the total recipe weight. Do not exceed 1.0% due to regulatory limitations on Salicylic Acid and Benzyl Alcohol concentration thresholds.
Effective pH Window: Active across a highly adaptable range of 3.0 to 8.0. However, it offers maximum structural stability and synergistic performance at a pH below 5.5.
Processing Method: It is heat-sensitive. For hot-process creams and emulsions, always incorporate Geogard ECT post-emulsification during the cool-down phase when temperatures drop below 40°C (104°F) to avoid degrading the sorbic and salicylic elements.
Formulation Impact: Geogard ECT contains organic acids that can cause a slight downward shift in the final pH of your batch upon introduction. Always measure and test your final pH after the preservative has been thoroughly blended in.
Age Restriction Warnings: Due to the Salicylic Acid content, products preserved with Geogard ECT must include restrictions in the EU and select regions indicating they are not to be used in leave-on skin care cosmetics targeted for children under 3 years of age.
Formulation Restrictions: Not recommended for use in purely aqueous products that contain high amounts of raw clay (such as clay face masks), as clay can interfere with the preservative matrix.
Storage: Store in a tightly closed container in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated space away from direct heat or freezing temperatures.
