Vitamin E Oil (DL-α-Tocopheryl Acetate)
Antioxidant and emollient for anti-aging creams, lotions, and DIY skincare
CA$10.00
Vitamin E Oil (DL-α-Tocopheryl Acetate) is a highly stable, synthetic form of Vitamin E widely celebrated in the cosmetic industry for its excellent skin-conditioning and antioxidant properties. Unlike pure tocopherol, the acetate form is highly resistant to oxidation when exposed to air, light, and heat, ensuring a significantly longer shelf life for both the raw ingredient and your finished formulations.
This deeply nourishing, viscous oil acts as a powerful humectant and emollient. It helps protect the skin barrier, improve moisture retention, and soothe dry or irritated skin. It is a staple additive for anti-aging skin care, lip care, hair treatments, and daily moisturizing formulas.
KEY BENEFITS & FUNCTIONS:
Enhanced Stability: Acetate binding protects the Vitamin E from premature oxidation, extending the shelf life of your cosmetic products.
Skin Barrier Support: Acts as an excellent emollient, locking in moisture and smoothing the skin's surface appearance.
Formulation Protection: Helps guard the delicate oils, butters, and active ingredients in your formulas from breaking down or going rancid.
Soothing Care: Provides deep hydration to soothe dry, rough, or sun-exposed skin and scalp environments.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
INCI Name: Tocopheryl Acetate
Chemical Name: DL-α-tocopherol acetate (Synthetic Vitamin E Acetate)
CAS Number: 7695-91-2 (Alternative: 58-95-7)
EC / EINECS Number: 231-710-0 (Synthesized specifically as the stable, esterified alpha-tocopheryl acetate form)
Purity / Activity: Typically ≥98% pure,
Biological Activity: 1,000 IU per gram (or 1 IU per milligram). Supplying approximately 1,000 IU of Vitamin E biological activity per 1 gram.
Appearance (@ 25°C): Clear, colorless to yellowish, highly viscous oily liquid
Odor: Practically odorless to very faint, characteristic odor
Stability: Highly stable against light, heat, and air. Unlike unesterified Vitamin E (Tocopherol), which oxidizes rapidly in the bottle, the acetate ester group preserves its shelf life.
SOLUBILITY & COMPATIBILITY:
Solubility: Practically insoluble in water. Freely soluble in acetone, chloroform, anhydrous ethanol, and fatty/vegetable oils.
Compatibility: Highly compatible with lipophilic (oil-soluble) systems, cosmetic bases, essential oils, and carrier oils.
COMMON USAGES & APPLICATIONS:
DL-α-Tocopheryl Acetate is the most widely trusted form of Vitamin E in the cosmetic industry because it breaks down into active, biologically accessible antioxidants once absorbed by the skin.
Skin Care: Anti-aging creams, daily moisturizers, eye serums, face oils, and body butters.
Sun Care & After-Sun: Soothing lotions, beach sprays, and post-sun recovery formulas to lower UV-induced free radical damage.
Lip & Nail Care: Heavy-duty lip balms, lip glosses, cuticle oils, and healing salves.
Hair Care: Scalp oils, deep conditioners, and beard serums designed to support skin barrier hydration.
RECOMMENDED USAGE PERCENTAGES:
Typically used between 0.5% to 5.0% in cosmetic formulations.
Creams, Lotions, & Daily Moisturizers: 0.5% – 2%
Lip Balms, Salves, & Heavy Body Butters: 1% – 5%
Anti-Aging Serums & Targeted Treatment Oils: 1% – 5%
As a Formula Stabilizer / Antioxidant: 0.2% – 1% (to protect fragile carrier oils)
NOTE: (Skin Antioxidant Action) - While it provides excellent antioxidant, barrier-strengthening, and soothing properties for the user's skin, it does not act as a primary batch antioxidant to prevent your bottled base oils from going rancid. (For batch preservation against oil rancidity, unesterified DL-alpha-tocopherol or Mixed Tocopherols are preferred).
FORMULATION & BLENDING GUIDE:
Oil-Phase Addition: Vitamin E Acetate is entirely oil-soluble. In hot-process emulsions (like creams and lotions), it should ideally be added during the cool-down phase (below 40°C / 104°F) alongside your preservatives and fragrances to preserve its structural integrity, though it can survive brief heating phases.
Viscosity Tips: Raw Vitamin E Acetate is a very thick, sticky liquid at room temperature. For easier pouring and measuring, gently warm the container in a warm water bath prior to formulation.
Storage: Store in a tightly sealed container in a cool, well-ventilated environment away from direct sunlight. While highly stable against oxidation, maintaining cool storage prevents structural degradation over extended periods.
Suitability & Sustainability:
Cruelty-Free: 100% cruelty-free and never tested on animals.
Vegan-Friendly: Derived through synthetic processes free from any animal products, by-products, or derivatives.
GMO-Free: Produced without the utilization of genetically modified organisms.
Tocopheryl Acetate versus Pure Tocopherol
The key difference between Tocopheryl Acetate and pure Tocopherol is that Acetate is an ester designed for stable skin absorption and barrier conditioning, while pure Tocopherol acts as a direct antioxidant that protects your product formulations from going rancid on the shelf.
Feature | Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E Acetate) | Pure Tocopherol (Mixed / d-Alpha Tocopherol) |
Chemical Form | Esterified (stable, bound molecule) | Unesterified (free, active hydroxyl group) |
Primary Function | Skin conditioning and nourishment | Formula antioxidant and oil preservative |
Oxidation Stability | High stability against air, light, and heat | Prone to oxidation and degradation over time |
Skin Action | Converts to free tocopherol inside the skin | Active antioxidant immediately upon contact |
Best Used For | Skin care lotions, creams, and body oils | Protecting carrier oils and bases from rancidity |
